I Chose This Because It Freaks Me Out…

by brittanypolicastro

Every year I pick a one word intention to embody for the entire year…

I started this ritual about 5 years ago and often incorporate it into my classes around the turn of the year. It’s a great way to not only think about what you want but to feel it as well.

Last year I chose the word receive. I wanted to embrace the great feminine energy of receptivity and allowing. This is always a bit of a struggle for me. Especially when I am not in control.

This year, my word is intimacy.

I chose it because more recently (with the help of my therapist) I’ve discovered that intimacy is scary for me.

And honestly, it’s hard for me to actually believe that I have issues with intimacy. I can eye gaze like a champ. I love big and raw and deep. I get vulnerable.

I create spaces of intimacy all the time. Settings where people feel safe enough to bare their souls and feel their emotions and live their truth.

So how the fuck can intimacy freak me out??

How can I spend a night on the sofa with my partner of 7 months eating take out and watching a movie and get freaked out but engage in deep sexual exploration and feel grounded and steady and amazing?

How can I still after 6 years with my fiance’ be holding a very small piece of myself away for safe keeping when I am more comfortable with him than any other person on the planet?

The truth shocks us sometimes. Especially when we build ourselves up to be a particular way and cling to that with tight fists and clenched teeth.

So this year I know it is my time to explore this.

I already know the times when I am not quite in control of my intimacy are the times when I’m scared of it.

I know that I am being asked to tap into a goddess within myself that is as soft as she is fierce. And I am ready. Even though I am scared. Indeed it is time.

And now I invite you to join me in my yearly ritual.

Take a meditation seat. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Ask your intuitive wisdom what you need to embody this year. What is your edge? How can you lovingly push it?

Once you have your word, begin to embody it.

What color is it? What’s the texture? What does it smell like? What sound does it give off? What does it taste like? Feel all of this in your body.

Imagine your cells are vibrating with the energy of your word.

Become the embodiment of that which you wish to manifest. Feel it in your bones. In your cells.

Then get a post-it and write down your word. Pick a spot to stick it where you will see it every single say. For the entire year. Move it only to replace it once the year is complete.

Now let me know what your word is in the comments below!

Wishing you a year where all of your dreams become manifested reality.
