What Happens When Your Love Becomes A Contribution (Our Wedding Details!!)

by brittanypolicastro

Weddings are so weird. It’s this one day you pour so much time and money and energy in. Often more than any other day.

Being a person who often feels compelled to push against what is expected of me, it took me a while to really connect with the true reasons why I chose to have a day that honored our union.

I cleared a lot of baggage that clung to me like barnacles on the underside of a boat, casting away that which I realized was never really mine to begin with.

I settled into my polyamorous reality that as I’m committing myself and my love to one beautiful person I am also in love with another.

And then, after countless email, thousands of dollars, several melt downs (that stress is real) and an itinerary that took my 5.5 hours to create, the day arrived.

And while the reception was so much fun and our decorations looked so beautiful, (centerpieces we created with the books we had on our night stands, one single candle and a succulent) and the food was delicious and we danced our asses off, I’m going to talk about the ceremony.

Because that was hands down my favorite part.

Our ceremony was unlike any I’ve ever been to but exactly what I had envisioned.

It was a collaboration of the most creative and loving people in our lives.

People who loves us. People who give from their hearts so deeply and freely.

The guests were greeted with sage to clear any negative energy that they might be carrying around. Then they were asked to put their phones in an envelope so they could be 100% present.

We walked in together as our dear friend sang her exquisite version of God Only Knows by the Beach Boys.

And we gathered with the 75 people (our most beloved people) who sat out in a beautiful grove in our favorite park surrounded by trees, or course.

What followed was the most beautiful ritual I’ve ever been a part of. And believe me I’ve been in a LOT of beautiful rituals.

Nick’s sister (our officiant) began by grounding all of us, her words drenched in deep wisdom that felt like it was beyond this particular life.

Our dear ones came up and spoke to our six core values in songs and poems and offerings that were captivated by magic.

Rose petals were poured on our heads as the power of the buffalo was called in (completely a surprise and also one of my favorite moments of the entire day.)

We spoke our vows in the most natural and lovely of ways.

We jumped the broom. We kissed.

The sun shone so sweetly on us. The first gorgeous day in a string of rainy overcasts.

I loved this part of our day so much because it was all about receiving.

This was the moment we got to let go of all the planning and trust that all the dear ones we called upon to hold us and support us and speak about us in their own way would come through.

And they did. In the most magical ways imaginable.

What so many people told us that they appreciated was seeing how much we were loved. Seeing how we have gathered a container, a community of wise, conscious, magical beings that love us. Because that kind of love is contagious.

This was our day. But also it was our contribution. Not only to each other, not only to those who joined us.

Our day was an offering to humanity. The love that was felt and expressed and shared. It was and is our gift.

You are are gift. Your love is a gift.

And your moments can literally be anything you want them to be.

YOU are the creator of your life. You don’t have to do something because others expect you too.

LIVE for you.

Live for LOVE.

Do this and everything else will work out.

Even when it doesn’t.

More pics to come once we get them. Stay tuned…
